The process
In 4 steps to Austrian registration.
When importing a vehicle—whether from Germany, another EU country, or a non-EU country—the same four steps always need to be completed. We will handle this for you.
01
Data sheet – entry in the Austrian vehicle database
The vehicle data must first be entered into the Austrian approval database. This is done via the general importer or a local authorized dealer.
Approx. 7 business days · around €150.00
02
NoVA – clarify the standard fuel consumption tax
After the database entry, the vehicle is automatically blocked by the tax authority for registration—also for electric vehicles, classic cars, and trailers. Only after clarification with the tax office and, if applicable, payment of the NoVA will the block be lifted.
Applies to combustion engines, hybrids, electric vehicles, classic cars
03
TÜV / § 57a inspection
An existing technical inspection can only be recognized if the vehicle was last registered in Germany and inspected by TÜV. For all other countries, an Austrian § 57a certificate is mandatory.
Send us the documents in advance – we will review them free of charge
04
Insurance & registration
An Austrian motor vehicle third-party liability insurance policy is required for registration. If you are relocating, we recommend obtaining a no-claims confirmation from your previous insurer in advance—claim-free years are credited in Austria.
Bonus-malus transfer from another EU country possible
